Personal:

I am a 19 year old freshman in college. I live just outside Boston, MA, but I am a student at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA.

In high school, I was football player, and, at one point, it looked like that was going to continue into college. However, I chose academics over the opportunity to play football. I have been looking for a competitive activity to replace football, and, so far, I have enjoyed my running the most.

When I started this blog, I had been training for about 4 weeks. At the time of this blog's beginning, my mile time is about 6:45. I assume that's a pretty good time, considering I was a 240 pound lineman just eight months ago.

I am ambitious and hard working. I set very high goals and standards for myself. I usually meet them, as my biggest fear is failing myself. When I do, it only motivates me to increase my efforts and try again.

I am absolutely loving this week so far...a third straight workout that I believe went very well. I upped the pace a bit today, and was able to get comparable mileage to the runs throughout this past week.

Following my standard 1-mile warmup, I set the treadmill for a 1% incline and ran seven miles at a 6:22 pace (old pace was 6:27). For the first five miles, I felt great, like I hadn't changed a thing. It was from this point on that I began to wear down--fast. By mile six I was struggling a fair amount. I was able to push out that final mile, and it felt good. While it was certainly tough, at no point did I feel at a loss of breath, severe cramps, or a significant loss in my pace. It was just a lot of work to get through it.

The weight lifting portion of my workout went well too. It was an upper body workout today, and after several days off (I was supposed to do this routine yesterday, but the gym closed--I went pretty late) I felt very fresh and was able to set new personal bests in most of my exercises.

I concluded the day with some intensive stretching...which felt awesome, as always. So far, this has been a very good week for me. I am hoping that I can keep this up!

Today was another good run, although I wasn't able to get to the gym until about 10:30 at night, which is later than I like to go.

After the standard 1-mile warmup, I set the treadmill at a 1% incline and was able to run 7.5 miles at a 6:27 pace. Nothing that notable...just that I fealt really good throughout the entire run. Calves felt a little tight at one point, but that wasn't a major issue. Some stretching wrapped up the night, which, as usual, felt good. I wasn't able to get my lifting in today, as I wouldn't have had time to complete it, I would have been kicked out about halfway through.

Overall, a great run though. Very pleased.

A very good workout today. Yesterday was my day off, so I was feeling good going into the gym.

After my standard warm-up, I hopped on the treadmill and set the incline for 1%. Today I ran seven miles at a 6:27 pace, which is probably the best run I have had since I've started training (I have run farther, and I have run faster, but I have never run this far at this pace). If I really felt like it, I probably could have pushed the mileage to 7.5 or so, but I was beginning to tire, and since this was already a mile over my previous high since coming back from my week long break, I decided that this was a good place to stop for today. I don't want to pile the mileage on too quickly.

Following the run, I did a nice abdominal workout, and that went very well too. Some stretching afterwards. I felt tight, but the stretching really helped. Overall, a great workout! It's these kinds of sessions that really make me excited to get to the gym.
